About me

Posted by admin on Jul 14 2008 | Uncategorized

I currently teach art to an amazing group of Kindergarten-5th graders at an American School in Shanghai, China. Prior to teaching overseas, I taught Multimedia and Studio Art classes at a high school in Harlem, NY. (I miss my high schoolers!) And finally, before I had ever dreamed of entering the teaching field, I worked as a graphic designer for six years in New York City.

In addition to Art is Messy I have created a website specifically for children that I teach and their parents. Here, I post images of my students’ artwork, as well as provide parents with information about what their child will be learning in art. To view the site, click here.

  1. You have such amazing projects on your site! I’m a 2nd year K-6 art teacher in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I’m always looking for new ideas. Thank you for sharing your projects! I bet teaching in China is a quite a bit different. How old are your kindergarten students? Their work is so impressive!

Thanks Beth! I am always amazed at the stuff that my kids create. There must be something in the water here. I don’t remember being able to make things like my students do when I was young.

Teaching in China is quite different than teaching in the States. For some reason I have very few behavioral issues here. Besides the normal chattiness that happens in art class my kids are amazing!

To answer your question, my Kindergarten kids are 5 and 6. I am honestly shocked at their motor control.
