Buddah Belly

Posted by admin on Sep 03 2009 | Uncategorized

My belly is more popular that Buddah’s, or so it seems at my elementary school. I am currently 29 weeks and 2 days into my first pregnancy. If it wasn’t already a strange experience watching my belly stretch and grow, walking around the halls of an elementary makes it even more surreal. I have encountered questions that range from the run of the mill “Ms. Sajan, are you pregnant?” to the humorous “Ms. Sajan, did you eat too much for lunch today?” My students are so excited to meet my little girl. One first grader asked me if I could email her photos of my new baby as soon as she was born.

It’s been really cute to see their excitement match my own. What has been frustrating though is the fact that I am unable to maintain eye contact with them. I am able to hold their attention for about 10 seconds and then their eyes slowly drift to my little paunch. What’s more frustrating is the fact that the halls are a battle field. I can not walk to lunch without encountering a sea of outstretched tiny hands. While I do not want to crush their curisoity, I don’t exactly want to be touched by the entire school either.

  1. I am starting to look more and more like Mr. Budah as well!
I am 22 weeks pregnant today, also with a girl. I don’t have the same kids everyday in my classes so when I mention being pregnant they are always astonished. Then I wonder what they were thinking was going on with my stomach if they didn’t think I was pregnant! Congrats to you! The first is always a really amazing experience- this is number 4 for me. :)

PS If you’re able, try and submit something for next month’s blog carnival gallery of kids art projects over at my blog.

  2. Awww! congrats on the pregnancy. Elementary students are so very curious and they are SO funny, “are you having a baby” (to a 38 week pregnant teacher…I heard the other day)…

just too funny…”no…she just swallowed a BASKETBALL!” lol.

    Julie,

Congratulations on your pregnancy!! It truly is such an amazing experience! I hope things have been going very smoothly for you and you have been feeling fantastic.

I’ve had kids for the last three weeks. I’ve seen them multiple times since the start of school. As of yesterday, I was still getting the “Are you pregnant question?” I thought to myself “What planet have these little guys been on?” Someone mentions my growing belly every class!!!

    Katie,

I know what you mean. I’ve starting joking with the kids who have been slow on the uptake. I now tell them that no I am not pregnant and that I am just getting fat. I get such a kick out of their reaction!
